My Answer:

There are a several coach certifying organizations, but there is not one official organization in charge of the coaching industry. Anyone can become a coach at anytime, even without training. All it takes to be recognized as a coach is for you to start calling yourself a coach. And, anyone can start charging for coaching at any time.

The coach that I hired to coach me right now is not certified.

In fact, none of the coaches I’ve hired over the last 11 years have been certified (not a conscious choice, just a coincidence).

More importantly, I’ve NEVER been asked by a potential client if I was certified. They don’t look for this. They just want to feel like you can help them. If you can show how you can help them in a compelling way, you can get clients.
